After a three year absence, pop-punkers Boys Like Girls released a brand new album last month. Love Drunk marks a major transformation in the band’s style, as they are embracing the latest trends in music today.

The album kicks off with Heart, Heart Heartbreak, which immediately introduces listeners to their new influence: 80s rock. Is this a good change? Absolutely. They handled the transition with ease, and this influence emerges in the title track, Love Drunk (which seems to be straight off a Killers album), and later in Real Thing, as well as throughout the entire album. Of course, the album would not be complete without a guest appearance by the lovely Taylor Swift, on Two Is Better Than One.

Although their style has changed somewhat, Martin Johnson and Co. continue to do what they know best: write and perform songs about a crazy little thing called love. The album should resonate well with young people. Boys Like Girls, it’s good to have you back.
